WFM Market News - August 15th , 2024

Hi Market Friends,

It’s mid-August, the produce is prolific, and it’s such a great time of year to enjoy farm fresh food. Ascentria SNAP-Ed’s at the market from 2-5. Try a sample of their mango-pineapple salsa and pick up a few free recipes with ideas for using this week’s market produce.

What a fantastic time we had celebrating National Farmers Market Week. We’d like to thank everyone who donated to The Little Free Food Pantry Food Drive and helped make it a smashing success. We appreciate you.

If you didn’t have a chance to pick up a limited edition 10th Season WFM keychain last week, they’re available at the Market table for $5. The proceeds help defray the costs of running the market.

See you Thursday!

Ruth Deacon of Rails End Crafts enjoys working with different materials to create clever and lovely items. She refers to her business as serendipity, making things by chance, in a happy way. Seasonal and themed wreaths along with up-cycled fabric items such as aprons and bucket hats can be found at her booth regularly. Acrylic paint pieces, rope bowls, and fun items for our furry friends will find their way to Ruth’s booth as well.

Farmers Market attendees receive free nutrition and health information when they visit the Ascentria Care Alliance SNAP-Ed booth. Kids can take part in our Scavenger Hunt and try their hand at salsa prepping, while adults get tips on budget-smart shopping, produce storage, and so much more.

Westfield Cultural Council returns to the Market this week and they're seeking opinions from the community to help determine their funding priorities for next year. As you may know, Westfield Farmers Market's season-long Music at the Market series is funded mostly by a WCC grant. WCC has also provided grants for Artworks of Westfield, WOW (Westfield on Weekends) and numerous other community programs that you, your family, friends, and neighbors have enjoyed. Please take a few moments to stop by WCC's table and share your thoughts.
